Graduation Project

 Graduation Project

As mandated by Pennsylvania's Department of Education, the West Chester Area School District has developed a new framework for graduation requirements consistent with meeting local standards of performance and state guidelines.

Dr. Mary Beans is providing leadership at East High School for the Project.

The Graduation Project is intended to allow students to synthesize their accumulated knowledge to explore individual topics which reflect their personal interests, future goals and levels of ability.  The Graduation Project should be based on knowledge gained from course work and relevant experiences.  Students must demonstrate appropriate written, research, oral, technology, and visual skills to complete the Project.

The Graduation Project may be an individual or group effort, approved by a teacher.  If it is a group effort, each student in the group will be assessed separately and will be responsible for all five components.  The Project must be an original work which is completely a product of the student's or group's own effort.

The Project may be a standard project within a course, or it may be an independent study project within the course completed by an individual student or group.  In the Course Selection Guide, courses will be designated with an asterisk as Graduation Project courses.

Students who wish to use some type of community service as a basis for a graduation project should see Dr. Beans.

A project MUST be successfully completed in order to graduate.

Questions or concerns should be directed to Dr. Mary Beans, web author.
