$1000 Spree


 

INTRODUCTION

CONGRATULATIONS!  You have just won a $1,000 shopping spree and may spend the money on whatever you want. However, there are some regulations you must follow.

bulletYou must first investigate, research, and document exactly how you plan to spend this money.
bulletAll items must be purchased from internet suppliers.
bulletYou must complete the spreadsheets and graph that will document all of your purchases.
bulletHave fun!

 

   TASK  

Goal:

bulletSpend exactly $1,000 without going over.  Careful planning will be necessary.

Research:

bulletUsing websites listed in the resources section below, research items you would like to purchase.
bulletYou may visit any of the sites listed below.
bulletIf you would like to visit other sites, you must check with your teacher first.
bulletYou are only browsing to find items you are interested in and are NOT ALLOWED to actually purchase any items.
bulletYou will be creating a "Wish List" by recording the item and its price on an Excel Spreadsheets that is titled "Wish List".
bulletPrices should be rounded to the whole dollar (for example: $1.49 would be rounded to $1.00 and $19.99 would be rounded to $20.00). Ignore shipping and handling costs and sales tax.

Accounting:

bulletRecord on the Excel Spreadsheets exactly how the $1,000 will be spent.
bulletYour purchases must be organized into several major categories. You must have no less than 3 major categories and the purchases in each category must total at least $100.
bulletPossible Category Ideas: Games, Toys, Books, Entertainment, Music, Sports, Recreation, Clothing, Electronics, CDs, Videos/Movies

Assessment:

bulletExcel Spreadsheets should be neat and organized.
bulletAll information must be completed.
bulletAll final information will be organized onto the last spreadsheet workbook.
bulletA labeled graph will be created within the Excel program.

 

PROCESS

Please download the "Wish List" spreadsheet from here and save it in your user folder!

Categories

bulletResearch and enter information on purchases you would like to make from websites you have visited.
bulletThink about under what "Category" this item would be found.
bulletYou must enter the item, the website, and the cost on a "Category" spreadsheets in the "Wish List" workbook.
bulletRemember you must have at least 4 categories and you must spend a minimum of $100 in each category.

Final Accounting

bulletOnce you have completed all of your research and your "Category" spreadsheets are complete, you will be selecting what items you will be purchasing with the $1000.
bulletEnter your final purchases on the "Final Accounting" spreadsheet in the "Wish List" workbook. 
bulletRemember, the total amount must be equal to $1000!

Graph

bulletEnter the information on the "Graph" spreadsheet.
bulletTogether as a class, we will create a graph that illustrates your spending on the "Graph" spreadsheet in the "Wish List" workbook.

Other Information

bulletInclude your name and date in the footer section of both the "Final Accounting" sheet and the "Graph" sheet.
bulletBe sure to save as you go in YOUR USER FOLDER.
bulletPrint out a copy of both the "Final Accounting" sheet and the "Graph" sheet for grading.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this imaginary shopping spree. Through this project, you should have learned about budgeting money, researching and shopping online, entering data and formulas into Excel Spreadsheets, and creating graphs using that data.
