Best Weather?

IntroductionEverybody talks about the weather!  You and a partner will continue this tradition and select the city in the United States with the best weather to talk about.

IntroductionYour first task will be to define "best weather."  Then you will use what you know about geography, landforms, and waterforms in order to select a city that you think has the "best weather".  You will collect data from weather websites about its weather.  You will present your conclusions in poster format.

Introduction

bullet

Discuss and come up with a team definition of "best weather."  Use such variables as temperature and precipitation.

bullet

Using a United States map on the U.S. Atlas link above and the other provided internet links (as well as your knowledge of geography, landforms and water forms), gather information that will help you decide what city in the United States best meets your definition of a "best weather" city.

bullet

Decide as a team, based on the data, which one of your cities is the "best weather city”.

bullet

Go to various online weather and city sites to obtain data about monthly high and low temperatures and rainfall for your city.

bullet

Represent this data in a table and a graph.  You and your partner will be creating a spreadsheet to construct your tables and graphs.  (Click here for the Weather Record.)  You complete the table and your teacher will instruct you on creating the graph.

bullet

Write a summary that explains why you think this is the “best weather city”.

bullet

Present your conclusions in poster format.  This poster will contain all 5 graphs and your summary, as well as images from the “best weather city”.

IntroductionUse this rubric to be sure your poster is a success!

IntroductionIn this activity, you will use the internet as a data source for a problem solving activity.  You will be connecting real-world weather data to analysis and representation.  You will use your reasoning skills to reach a conclusion based on the data, and will communicate your conclusions in poster format.
