Calling all new 5th graders for the 2008-2009 school year--here is the Reading Olympics List for the 2008-2009 school year.
This list is a great group of books to read, even if you don't want to participate. Books available in all public libraries. You can sign-up for Reading Olympics in the fall. Students strive to read as many books as possible. After every book read the students fill out the book summary sheet and use 3 index cards to write questions and anwers about the book-one question and answer (on the back) per book. Hope you plan to join the fun!

Reading Olympics was held on Thursday April 24, 2008
Penn Wood sent two 5th grade teams the "Reading Rabbits" and the "Olympic Owls" to the Chester County Reading Olympics held at the Downingtown Educational Center on Thursday, April 24th-5:45pm--All 18 students have worked hard all school year trying to read through 45 books!


Thank you to Mrs. Iivari, Dr. Reese, Mrs. Cook, Dr. Gacomis, and Mrs. Long for working with our students.
Reading Olympics was held at the Downingtown Educational Center, located next door to Downingtown High School West on Manor Avenue in Downingtown. Directions are as follows:
Directions to the Downingtown Educational Center (DEC)
From West Chester and East:
* Take US-30 West toward Downingtown/Coatesville.
* Take the US-322 (Manor Avenue) Exit.
* Turn left onto US-322. Continue to follow US-322 East toward
Downingtown for approximately 0.7 miles.
* The DEC will be on the left (335 Manor Avenue).
Parents attended the competition as spectators. Due to the large crowds and nature of the competition, the attendance of preschool children was discouraged. Spectators did not interfere in the questioning or scoring processes.
