The JRC is to make school a better place. Under the
leadership of Mrs. Blaker and Mrs. Knapp the students
work in conjunction with the staff's Respect and
Responsibility Committee. Everyone in the school is
involved in making decisions, but there are only JRC
ambassadors from 4th and 5th grade who actually meet.
The way all the other students are involved is that any
one can tell their ambassador their ideas. JRC members
may be involved with the morning announcements,
providing new families a tour of the school, helping
with the distribution of the papers that are sent home
on Fridays, helping with our gardens, adding
announcements and birthdays to the white board in the
Dining Room, and our special events.
SAVE THOSE ALUMINUM TAB TOPS -
KEEP SAVING THOSE TABS!!!
The
W-T JRC visited the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware
and presented the House with a check for $400 from their
bake sale. The students came away from this
experience motivated to do more! They have decided
to start a “SAVE THE TABS” campaign at W-T.
We are asking that parents and staff save all aluminum
tab tops and send into school with their children.
There will be a container in each classroom. JRC
students will collect the tabs and deliver them to the
RMH in Delaware. Last year, the RMH in Delaware
raised over $6,000 from the tabs. We believe that
W-T can help them exceed that amount for 2008!
A TRIP TO THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF DELAWARE-JANUARY
11, 2008
On January 11, 2008, members of the JRC visited the
Ronald McDonald House of
Delaware. Ronald McDonald House of Delaware
provides a "home away from home" for families of
seriously or chronically ill or injured children
receiving treatment at area hospitals by offering an
environment where families can stay together and find
comfort.
Members,
along with Mrs. Blaker, Mrs. Knapp and Mr. Krushinski
boarded a bus and headed for Wilmington Delaware.
We were greeted by Sara Funaiock, Volunteer Manager,
and then escorted into a small theater where two members
of the JRC presented a check in the amount of $400 to
Ms. Funaiock. The group watched a short video
explaining how the House operates, then proceeded into a
large conference room. While a tour of the House
was given to one group, the others stayed behind and
filled plastic bags with candy. Three hundred
seventy five bags were filled! Students also made
cards for families who may be staying at the House.
They
learned other ways that we could continue to help the
House, and plan to have a meeting to brain storm their
ideas. To see how you can help click

FALL BAKE TABLE
The JRC met in October and decided to hold a Bake Table during conferences,
and all donations were for the Ronald McDonald House. Some
JRC members took shifts on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Baked goods were donated by their wonderful parents.
Donations were collected and by the end of the day the committee
had raised close to $400. The members will visit the
Ronald McDonald House sometime in January and present them with
a check. Job well done!
SWEET DREAMS PROJECT
Thank
you to all that helped in our very successful “Sweet Dreams”
community project (October Spirit
Friday). We collected new child -friendly pillow cases
and JRC members decorated over 30 cases with student artwork for
donation to CHOP (CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL of Philadelphia) to help
their young patients feel more at home while going through the
trauma of being in a hospital.
Fondly, Mrs. Appel |
